Frequently Asked Questions

QThe tack-free-time on your products says 30 minutes, but why it is still sticky after 30 minutes?

In 2016,the [tack-free-time] ,according to the JIS(Japan Industry Standard) rules, changed to [Dry-to-touch-time], which means touched lightly without any adhering to the finger.

which does not mean the sealant reaches a state of sufficient cured, it is still soft and sticky under the surface. The [tack-free-time] you saw on the product is the old term which is still being used mistakenly. We apology for this kind of inconvenience.

QWhere can I find your products MSDS?

Please download from

You can also download TSD(technical materials) and catalogs. Some products may not be listed due to reasons such as being revised. If you need it, please contact us by phone or email.

QIs water-tight Gap Filler peelable?
AUnlike the peelable toilet gap filler, the water-tight gap filler is a type of product that adheres firmly, it cannot be easily peeled off.But just like a general silicone sealant it can be removed with a cutter, etc.
QCan I use water-tight Gap Filler or toilet gap filler around the cooktop area?

The water-tight Gap Filler silicon can withstand temperatures of up to 150 °C,

while the toilet gap filler is 80 °C.

Therefor we do not recommend using them on the cooktop because they are not highly heat resistan products.

QI would like to know your products heat and cold resistant information.

The heat or cold resistant properties are differs from every silicone products.

please check our products catalogue page 13~14 for detail information.

QDoes mold resistant silicone work?

The main cause of mould growth in silicone is water getting behind the silicone.

The anti-mold component in our products can slow down mold growing but it does not mean not attract mold over time.

It is recommanded to always keep the surface of your silicone dry and no permanent moisture.

QThe [Roof Tile Bond] silicone product from your company become wet over time, does silicone melt?

The roof tile fixing bond maintains a rubber-like elasticity after curing.

It has excellent heat resistance, water resistance, and weather resistance properties.

The silicone itself does not melt in the natural environment. The silicone oil contained in the roof tile bond may leak out and appear to melt.

QThe「Bath Seal」silicone has an unpleasant smell, is breathing silicone toxic?

The smells are made up of MEKO(methyl ethyl ketoxime)that are components of「Bath Seal」or「Sharpie Silicone S」silicone products.THe smell itself is not harmful but high exposure to it can cause headache, therefore it is highly recommend to keep the window open when applying. The smell stops once fully cured. Also, if you are worried about the odor, there are also silicone sealants that cure while generating alcohol instead of MEKO gas such as「Polyca Seal」, which does not generate chemical smell but it is not anti-mold.

QThe「Bath Seal」silicone product does not have a lid. How to store it?
ABecause clients usually buy the exact amount of required Bath Seal, we chose not to include a lid to reduce waste. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you do, however, use the Bath Seal for small repairs and cracks, refer to the following guide on how to store sealants:
QWhy is the「Polyca Seal」 policarbonate sealant not curing?
AAlcohol type silicone sealants like the 「Polyca Seal」 cures slowly after it has been stored for a long time. Please check the manufacturing date on the cartridge. 「Polyca Seal」has a shelf life of one year.
Note that oxime type sealants become more viscous after being stored for a long time and become difficult to extrude.
QHow to remove silicone (product like 「Bath Seal」)from my hands?
ASilicone is difficult to clean. We do not recommend alcohol nor thinner cleaners. We recommend to apply nail polish remover to your hands to loosen the silicone, but it may cause dry skin.
QI cannot find the manufacturing date on the container.
AWe apologize for non-uniform locations of the manufacturing date.
There are 6 letters and numbers on undated products. The first digit is the second number of the Japanese year, and the next for are month and date. The last digit is our control number. For example, H15/2/28 is shown as 50228A. Another example: 03.07.01A, signifies July 1st, 2003.
QCan Sharppie modified silicone be used on textured walls?

Yes, modified silicone can be applied to textured walls, but do not paint over the wall with oil or phthalic acid(alkyd) based paintings because it will not dry.Same thing would happen to water based paintings.

If you want to paint over silicone sealant then none bleeding silicone sealant is highly recommanded. There are variety of Sharppie brand non bleeding silicone sealants available.

QCan Sharppie modified silicone be used for high temperature coating?

Some of our customers are using it that way but we recommand you to check first whether the sealant can be painted by high temperature coating method.

Depending on the time between silicone apply and high temperature coating as well as high temperature coating process, surface blistering may happenes.

QHave you just started to sale clear modified silicone sealant?

The product you are asking is called See Through M-NB.

There are similar named products such as Modified Silicone Sealant Mand many other modified silicone sealants but with total different properties, therefore please make sure to choose the correct names.

Qwhat's the difference between「Modified Silicone Sealant NB-LM」and 「Paintable Modified Silicone Sealant」?

The big difference between the two is the hardnes after curing.

「Modified Silicone Sealant NB-LM」is low modulus and remains permanently elastice to ensure flexibility therefore can be used for siding joints in both new construction and renovation becauseit.

On the other hand, Paintable Modified Silicone Sealant」 is relatively high modulus and more rigid once cured, therefore for renovation purpose is ok but cannot be used for newly built siding joints.

QWith so many colors of sealant to choose from, how do you know you're picking the perfect color for your project?

In order to make the color of the sealing materials easy to understand, we have posted the similar color code found in the color chart from Japan Paint Manufacturers Association(JPMA) for each product on our homepage.

However, these colors are only close approximations of the actual sealant colors, and if there is no color close to the color chart, the product will be labeled as  "no applicable color".It is better to  purchase a color chart book from the JPMA to have a better knowledge of the color.

To make getting the sealant color you need easy and fast we are trying our best to get our sealants registed with the exact color code.

QThe Sharp Chemical Industry colour matching system using expressions like "exact match colour", "approximation colour", and "similar colour from other companies", what do they mean?

"exact match coluor"sealant was made by matching the exact colours that recommended by the siding manufacturer;

"approximation colour" sealant was made by matching the siding sample(s) colours brought from the manufacturer;

"similar colour from other companies"sealant was made by following other company's reference. Since the colour is not selected after checking the sample siding materials, there may be some differences compared to the actual colour.

QHow to fill holes in wood deck using Sharpchem Lumber Repair Caulk NB?

Clean the damaged area with a screwdriver or stiff brush to remove any loose paint or rotted wood. Lumber Repair Caulk NB is a high viscosity sealant therefore it won't flow throug even if it is a penetration hole.

However, if the hole is too deep it will takes long time for curing. It is better to fill the holes with bubble wraps or wood chips but make sure to apply more than 10mm thickness of caulking materials.
